We Need A Proper Plan For The A9

Humza Yousaf, former leader of the SNP, said in early 2024 that work to dual the A9 would not be completed before the next Holyrood election in May 2026. He went on to say that the SNP were “absolutely committed” to getting this done. Just like they've been saying for 16+ years. Originally due to start in 2015 and be entirely complete by 2025, to date, just 12.5 miles of dual carriageway have been opened.

When pressed on the matter at the time, Humza Yousaf declined to provide any kind of new timeline or date for completion. Under the disasterous SNP / Green coaltion, progress has been unacceptably slow. The road is unfit for purpose, crashes and deaths continue to mount, and the whole of the Highlands suffers from the SNP's decade and a half of inaction.

We are calling for the Scottish government to:

  • Urgently announce a revised timetable for the completion of A9 dualling.
  • Provide adequate funding to make sure they don't miss deadlines.
  • Announce a proper plan for the upgrading of the A9 north of Inverness, which has so far been neglected.

Highland Lib Dem's A9 Petition

'I support the campaign to get proper funding to dual the A9 from Perth to Inverness, and to get a proper plan to upgrade the A9 from Thurso to Inverness.'
