Office Manager / Senior Case Worker

Full time role, based in Inverness
Salary range £31,000 - £36,000 depending on experience

Roles and responsibilities of Office Manager/Senior Case Worker

  • Supporting Angus by leading a busy constituency office, the Office Manager will report to the Chief of Staff and work closely with other members of the team.
  • Manage office budgets, keeping the MP informed of relevant financial matters 
and liaising with Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA).
  • Lead and maintain a highly professional administrative support function.
  • Manage an office team, ensuring accurate personnel records are kept and notifying IPSA of contractual changes.
  • Overall management of the MP’s diary commitments, delegating
tasks to others as appropriate.
  • Liaise with groups/personnel on the MP’s behalf.
  • Have final sign-off on all relevant delegated areas from the MP, e.g. constituent correspondence.
  • Plan the MP’s internal communications and external stakeholder 
engagement, providing strategic advice on constituent matters on 
behalf of the MP where appropriate.
  • Support and manage the recruitment of staff for the MP’s office.
  • Deal with security matters, keep abreast of security guidance, liaise 
with external bodies as appropriate.
  • Conduct parliamentary research as required.
  • Take ownership of certain casework, ensuring that each case is 
dealt with promptly, sensitively, accurately and confidentially.

Essential skills

  • Previous experience running a busy office and managing a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise a demanding 
workload to meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in IT (Microsoft suite) and able to learn to use new systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle challenging situations.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of current political issues.
  • Supportive and sympathetic of Liberal Democrat values.
  • Aware of issues in Scotland and the West Highlands.

Case Workers

Two full time roles available, one based in Inverness and one in Fort William
Salary range £23,000 - £26,000 depending on experience

Roles and responsibilities of Case Worker

  • Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face.
  • Draft responses to constituents.
  • Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, accurately andconfidentially, in accordance with the MP.
  • Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases.
  • Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken.
  • Manage and monitor social media enquiries, dealing with cases that do not need to be transferred to a higher level. Ensure all enquiries are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Retain records and information confidentially and in line with data protection legislation.
  • Some work outside of the normal working hours, particularly for MP advice surgeries, and occasional work travel.

Essential skills

  • Ability to deal with and prioritise a large and varied caseload, and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage expectations in sometimes challenging circumstances.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Ability to draft letters and emails to a high professional standard.
  • Ability and willingness to develop knowledge in specialist areas.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively as part of a small team.
  • Discretion and empathetic professionalism.
  • Supportive and sympathetic of Liberal Democrat values.

Desirable skills

  • Previous casework or customer service experience.
  • Understanding of the issues facing people in the West Highlands.
  • Able to speak Gaelic.
  • Full driving licence.

Parliamentary and Research Assistant

Full time, based in Westminster
Salary range £30,000 - £39,000 depending on experience

Roles and responsibilities of Parliamentary and Research Assistant

  • Conducting research and writing concise but comprehensive briefings ahead of meetings, media appearances, conferences, etc.
  • Writing speeches for Chamber appearances and external events.
  • ⁠⁠Analysing and interpreting data to ensure Angus is accurately informed on key issues.
  • ⁠Responding professionally, sensitively and with integrity to complex casework.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and parliamentary events.
  • ⁠Managing press enquiries, Angus’s website and social media.
  • ⁠⁠Monitoring local, regional, and national media coverage and briefing Angus on relevant issues with particular attention to Scotland and the West Highlands.
  • Additional ad-hoc duties as required.
  • Working with the team in Scotland.

Essential skills

  • ⁠Keen interest in politics and sympathetic with the values and aims of the Liberal Democratic Party and issues in Scotland.
  • ⁠Excellent research skills, with an ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced political environment.
  • ⁠Highly organised, proactive and a strong work ethic.
  • ⁠High-quality written and verbal communication skills.
  • ⁠Campaigning, including management and monitoring of social media channels.
  • ⁠Competency with IT, including MS Office, Mailchimp, Canva, etc.⁠

Personal Assistant, Scotland

Full time, based in Fort William area
Salary range £22,000 - £26,000 depending on experience

Roles and responsibilities of Personal Assistant

  • Diary management.
  • Assistance with arrangements for events – this may include venue research and bookings; compiling and managing guest-lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event support as required.
  • Open, handle and action email, post and social media enquiries. Respond to enquiries by phone, email, and social media, passing on queries to other team members/the MP as appropriate.
  • Provide administrative support in relation to the MP’s expenses scheme, via Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) Online.
  • Handle administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries.
  • Provide administrative support for Angus with his business and charity interests. 
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence.
  • Engage professionally and with care and integrity with members of the public, through a variety of methods.
  • Exposure and ability to deal with complex cases.
  • Assist in the compilation of briefing packs and the writing of speeches.
  • Assist in the updating of social media on request.
  • Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation.
  • Minute taking.
  • Database management using office software to handle administrative cases.

Essential skills

  • Good organisational and people skills.
  • Competency with IT, including MS Office, social media platforms, etc.⁠
  • Able to work as part of a team or individually.
  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude to new challenges.
  • Full driving licence.
