12.00.00am GMT Wed 24th Feb 2010

Local MP John Thurso accused Lloyds Banking Group of "intimidation on a grand scale" today as the bank announced it intends to end the funding deal with the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland which has distributed millions of pounds to Scottish charities over the years.

John who is a member of the influential Treasury Committee which has been investigating the banking crisis said:

"Many charities in my constituency have benefitted from the foundation and risked being denied support in the future.

"The bank owes its existence to an injection of public money and should not behave in this high handed manner."
