Highland Lib Dems comment on changes in council administration

12.00.00am GMT Thu 4th Feb 2010

The Highland Lib Dems today commented on the changes in the administration of the Highland council.

Four independent members walked out of the Lib Dem / Independent / Labour today after an Independent Group meeting.

Lib Dem chairman Ian Ross said:

"It has always been for the Independent Group to agree their own group rules and conditions.

"Any changes within our coalition partners is a concern but is first and foremost a decision for that particular group.

"Coalition administrations need the loyalty and commitment of members from all groups to be able to work together constructively for the good of the public. It is important for the Highlands that we have and effective and sustainable administration.

"Members of any administration have both a duty to represent their ward and help run the council. This is what being in administration entails.

"The Lib Dem group will continue to work in coalition with the Independent Group to run the Highland Council administration."
